Alki Beach Residence
Seattle, Wa.
Architect: GGLO Architecture & Interiors
Inspired strongly by the exterior environment consisting of warm sand dunes, aquamarine sea, azure blue sky and snow-capped mountains, SLG evoked these contrasting themes with a lighted interior environment which was more about working with blocks of color and planes instead of individual focal points. Emphasis is given to material and color planes throughout the residence by careful selection of light sources and their integration with the architecture. By countersinking special lights in the floor, light grazes the textured walls and accentuates the color providing additional interest to wall and ceiling planes. A water moat around the Spa tub becomes a glowing light band with perimeter fiber optic cable containing specialized light extraction grooves. For finishing touches in the dressing room, music room, and master bedroom, unique decorative fixtures were procured from Europe and modified for installation in the USA.
