Camano Island Vacation House
Camano Island, WA
Architect: Rex Holhbein Architects
As a retreat for a Seattle couple, this island cabin with its use of natural materials brings together family and friends through careful placement of decorative ceiling pendants and accurately aimed tiny accents. Architecturally, the cabin has a strong NW Longhouse feel, and to accentuate this feeling, our design placed the pendants with their wood details along the central roof axis. Since the roof structure was comprised of rhythmically spaced purlins with solid insulation behind, getting wire to these adjustable accents was no easy task. A special canopy was implemented that mated with a surface adjustable monopoint allowing transformers to be remotely installed. On the exterior decks and around courtyard areas, hand forged bronze lanterns punctuate the façade and improve circulation during evening hours.
